A R B O R E T A sound collective
ARBORETA is a socially engaged queer sound collective that offers participatory sound baths with the community it serves. The founding members are composed of Creative Arts Therapy candidate Sal Daña (they/them) and Grammy winning cellist Leah Coloff (she/they). The practitioners use flute, cello, and singing bowls to provide an acoustic soundscape that attunes to the parasympathetic nervous system and assists in stress relief. Sound bath sessions have been shown to reduce cortisol levels in listening participants.
Community participation and collective joining at one’s own pace is welcome and observed. Player members are free to engage or disengage at their own will as the founding members hold a consistent space for session.
Acupressure ear seed treatments are also offered in tandem with sound sessions. Ear seed treatments, utilized by the Black Panthers for community detox, are applied to specific acupressure points on the ear to provide benefits like stress relief and pain management.
Limited recordings are available to protect the privacy of individuals in sessions.
